Gaborone, Botswana – In a move to bridge the digital divide in local education, the Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) has partnered with Education Infrastructure and Management Company (EIMC) to launch a major technology upgrade at Gaborone Secondary School.

The collaboration culminated in a formal handover ceremony this week, where the two organizations donated a state-of-the-art Solar-Powered Computer Laboratory to the school. The facility includes 30 high-performance workstations, a local area network, and offline e-learning servers, ensuring students have access to digital educational content regardless of grid connectivity.

“This donation is about more than just hardware; it is about preparing our youth for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said a BIH representative during the event. “By partnering with EIMC, we are ensuring that the infrastructure is sustainable and tailored to the needs of our educators.”

EIMC provided the technical expertise for the project, overseeing the installation and committing to a 12-month maintenance plan. The company also trained five teachers on digital pedagogy and system administration.

School Principal Ms. Keletso Ramotswa expressed profound gratitude, noting that the lab would significantly enhance the teaching of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). “For the first time, our students can engage in practical coding and research without leaving the school grounds,” she said.

The initiative is part of BIH’s broader “SmartBots Schools” program, which aims to establish innovation hubs within public schools across the country. Officials confirmed that this is the pilot project, with plans to replicate the model in at least five more rural schools by the end of the fiscal year.
