The procurement will use a mix of methods, including community participation through local artisans, requests for quotations for building materials and hardware, micro procurement and restricted domestic bidding for specialist suppliers.

EIMC says the approach is intended to ensure that more of the project spending circulates within local economies, creating opportunities for local businesses, artisans and suppliers to benefit from the refurbishment programme.

Qualified TVET graduates, local artisans, PYEC-supported youth and beneficiaries of the Ikageng Public Works Programme are expected to participate, creating opportunities for employment, income generation and practical skills development.

Local suppliers and vendors will also be prioritized in sourcing building materials, meaning businesses in communities hosting the projects could benefit from increased demand for construction related goods and services.

Beyond giving 22 schools a facelift, EIMC says the programme is therefore expected to provide a much-needed economic boost to local communities while creating better and more dignified learning environments for students.
