Debswana and EIMC Partner to Boost Education with School Donation

Debswana
In a significant move to uplift local education, Debswana Diamond Company, in partnership with the Education Infrastructure and Management Company (EIMC), has donated a state-of-the-art computer laboratory to Letlhabile Community Junior School. The handover ceremony, held earlier this week, marked the culmination of a P500,000 project aimed at bridging the digital divide in rural communities. The donation includes 30 high-performance desktop computers, interactive smart boards, and ergonomic furniture, alongside a reliable solar backup system to counter frequent power outages. “We believe that technology is the cornerstone of modern education,” said a Debswana representative. “This partnership with EIMC ensures that students are equipped with the digital skills necessary for the 21st-century economy.” EIMC, tasked with managing the project’s infrastructure, also oversaw the renovation of the school’s existing computer room, ensuring it meets safety and accessibility standards. The company committed to providing ongoing technical maintenance for the next two years. School headteacher Mrs. Mpho Kgosi expressed profound gratitude, stating that the facility would “revolutionize teaching and learning” for the school’s 400 learners, many of whom had previously lacked practical computer experience. This initiative forms part of Debswana’s broader social investment strategy to promote quality education, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable community development beyond the mining sector.
